A well-balanced puppy needs safe socialization right from the start. Happy, healthy puppies need plenty of playtime in a safe setting during their first year. At Dogtopia, we provide a nurturing and fun environment where your pup can get socialization, education and exercise. We consider ourselves Puppy Love Experts and will care for your puppy like they\u2019re one of our own. We strive to make your puppy’s first visit to be the best day ever. Here\u2019s what you can expect on their first day of daycare.<\/p>\n

Meet & Greet<\/h3>\n

We will gather a comprehensive history of your puppy, including collecting vaccination records. We want to know who they are and what they like! Next, we will take your puppy to the evaluation area. We do a three-step evaluation without the pet parent, since your puppy will be in the playroom without you.<\/p>\n

Step 1:<\/strong>\u00a0We will do an all-over touch test to see if he has any aversions to being touched in a particular area. In open play there is a lot of interaction as you can imagine, so we just want to see how he responds.
\nStep 2:<\/strong>\u00a0We will lead him into one of our home-style crates and see how he responds or if it causes him any anxiety.
\nStep 3:\u00a0<\/strong>The last portion is socializing him with a few dogs from the playroom of different size, temperament, and energy levels. We introduce them one at a time from the playroom and watch his responses to the interactions.<\/p>\n

Playroom Assignment<\/h3>\n

Our rooms are generally grouped by size, temperament and play style. When puppies are here for their first visit, they may be placed in the small dog room. We find that small dogs are often less intimidating to puppy newcomers, so that may be a good place to start. As your puppy ages, grows, and develops, they may switch playrooms as their confidence builds and play preferences change.<\/p>\n

Puppy Play Time<\/h3>\n

Puppies like to play like puppies! They will run, chase, be chased, grab each others\u2019 necks, fall down, bark, trip, pull on each others\u2019 ears and tumble around. To pet parents, this play could look worrisome, but this is standard puppy play! Our trained Canine Coaches in the room will monitor your puppy to make sure that they are having fun when they are playing with the other dogs in the room. If at any point your puppy gets scared or overwhelmed, our staff will intervene. Plus, you can watch your puppy play all day on our webcams.<\/p>\n

Nap Time<\/h3>\n

Between noon and 2 p.m., each dog is provided some much-needed \u201cme\u201d time in a home-style crate. Just like children, puppies need more sleep than adult dogs. They also need more time to calm down and relax so they don\u2019t get over stimulated in exciting environments like a playroom. Our Canine Coaches will closely monitor your puppy and may give him extra rest time in the crate throughout the day. This is designed to set him up for success!<\/p>\n

Lunch & Medications<\/h3>\n

Some puppies are fed lunch, so please bring your puppy\u2019s food with you when you come to Dogtopia. Each puppy will be fed at the start of naptime and will have plenty of time to digest their food before they are allowed to play again. This private time is also when we administer any medications, if applicable.<\/p>\n

Boarding<\/h3>\n

If your puppy is boarding (staying overnight) with us, he or she will burn off any excess energy during a full day of play. They\u2019ll be tired but happy when they go to bed! Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served, and food is prepared exactly as requested by each pet parent. You may consider bringing a little extra food for boarding as they burn a lot more calories in play than they typically do at home! If you forget your food for meals \u2013 no worries! We have in-house food for convenience. Your puppy will sleep in the same home-style crates and in the same room they were playing in earlier so they feel safe and comfortable.<\/p>\n

At Dogtopia, our pledge to you is that your puppy will always be in great hands with us. We recommend dogs attend daycare 2-3 times a week to help them become a well-balanced pup with strong socialization skills. Keeping them engaged with their BFFFs (Best Furry Friends Forever) and their favorite Canine Coaches will help them learn positive behavior and reduce the mischief taking place when left home alone.<\/p>\n
