The BHS has been operating since 1974 and serves hundreds of dogs and cats every year. They are proud of their no-kill policy and take great concern in treating any ailments with the veterinarian treatment. They believe every animal that arrives at the BHS has the right to a safe and loving home.<\/p>\n
If an animal comes in, there is a 72 hour wait time for their owner to claim them. If unclaimed, the animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped along with any other necessary health care. Animals are then brought into the Adoption Centre where they are cared for and loved by the staff and volunteers of the BHS until they find a new home.<\/p>\n
The BHS also has some community programs. The Pet Therapy Program was established to bring the warmth, joy and comfort of pets to those who may no longer be able to care for one every day. Volunteers take their own pets to visit those in retirement homes, nursing homes, hospices and residential homes. The Outreach Program was established to teach responsible pet ownership and animal behaviour. Volunteers and their pets visit schools and community groups to educate on safety, respect, care and compassion towards animals.<\/p>\n
