Dogtopia is a leading dog daycare provider with more than 150 locations operating in 30 states and Canada with another 230 in the development pipeline to open. We are looking for a Phoenix-based Financial Controller with a “must have” background in multi-unit retail and or franchise experience. The Financial Controller position is responsible for managing a small efficient team who are responsible for accurately recording all accounting transactions and the timely reporting of periodic financial reports. In addition, the Controller completes reconciliations and financial validations, budgets and upholds generally accepted accounting principles and solid internal controls. The Controllership is a supervisory position with the management of 2 Senior Accountants to carry out full AP, AR, Payroll, GL posting and POS entries. The Controller is also expected to ensure compliance with local, State and Federal agencies and the overall duty of safekeeping and performing all accounting functions of Dogtopia Enterprises.

A typical week includes:

  • General Ledger posting to Microsoft Dynamics ERP Business Central
  • Review and approve Payables in Avid Xchange
  • Approve, develop and record payroll using the Paylocity system and related benefit systems
  • Calculation, report and distribute the weekly collection of the Royalties
  • Foundation donation reconciliation and transfers on the employee side and franchisee side
  • Purchase ordering process, to Invoice generation and Payment protocol controls and limits
  • Franchisee fee calculations and ACH function

Each Month & Quarterly you can expect:

  • Intercompany and Bank reconciliation and payment process reporting
  • Review the GL & make necessary reclassifications
  • Budget variance reporting per department
  • Sales, use and property tax calculation and filing
  • Compilation of consolidated financial vs. budget and presentation to leadership the team
  • Licensing, reporting and regulatory requirements to outside agencies

Wrap the Year with:

  • Planning and budget forecasting
  • Insurance review, applications, and other insurance compliance
  • Employee benefits and accrual management
  • Conference participation, AR and AP
  • Accurate and timely annual and possible periodic FDD reporting
  • Annual internal audit with outside CPA firm
  • Annual tax workpapers and schedules working with the tax CPA firm

From time-to-time there will be:

  • Special financial projects
  • Support Office team and Franchisee requests to provide financial or operational data and solutions
