It’s a tough choice – should you board your dog during holidays? \u00a0As a member of the family, you often want your dog to be around during the holidays and family get-togethers. \u00a0However, for holidays when fireworks are bound to go off, you should take a moment to consider boarding your dog. \u00a0 Dogs can become incredibly anxious and scared during fireworks displays, even if they’re inside and away from them visually. If you\u2019re one of the many people who has a dog that it scared of fireworks, it\u2019s well worth considering boarding your dog during the holiday to ensure their safety.<\/p>\n

More pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of year, and noisy fireworks are to blame. According to national statistics, animal control officials across the country see a 30-60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4th and 6th. In fact, July 5th is one of the\u00a0busiest days of the year for shelters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0Stay inside<\/strong>: Try to keep your pet indoors at all times during holiday
\ncelebrations. Ideally, someone stays home with your pet. Also keep
\nyour dog leashed when going out for walks.<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0Make them feel safe<\/strong>: Comfort your pets with petting, hugging, talking
\nto them in a soothing voice, providing a treat and staying nearby if
\npossible. Make sure they can access their crate or \u201csafe place.\u201d Also
\nask your veterinarian or local pet retailer about natural calming
\nproducts, anxiety wraps and other products that can help.<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0Avoid the noise<\/strong>. Try to drown out the fireworks sounds as much as
\npossible by closing windows, playing music or turning on the TV.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0Act normal<\/strong>! Your pet takes cues from your and your family\u2019s actions. It
\nwill help if you go about your normal routine as much as possible, talking and playing with your pet
\nas usual.<\/p>\n

5)\u00a0Protect your pet before the fireworks begin<\/strong>. There are a number of lost-pet devices and services
