After the loss of our 15-year-old Boxer Tawny, I had resigned myself from attaching myself to another dog. Plus, we still had Wrigley our senior cattle dog mix who DESPISED other dogs. Months of her loss turned into a year, then two and still the hole was left in my heart.
Then the pandemic hit. I would scroll through Facebook at different dog rescues and show pictures to my husband who would reply “Just go and get him!” Nope, no way…I could never love another dog like I had loved her.
One day while working from home, my husband said, “Well, I’m going to the SPCA to get a dog”. Yeah OK. I never lifted my gaze from my laptop. He had been saying things like this for months, and truth be told he loves to joke…A LOT. An hour or so later, I got a text from him with a picture of a small blonde and white puppy. He was in the driveway wanting to know how in the heck we were going to introduce our new puppy to Wrigley.

My mind went a million places at once. “I’m not ready for this..I can’t love another dog…OMG Is Wrigley going to eat him?”
Fast forward a year later. We named our little Labrador mix Ruger. My boys adore each other. Ruger brought the puppy out in our 14-year-old Wrigley. He has brought so much joy into all of our lives. I just can’t imagine my life without him. My heart is full. ❤
