Memorial Day Fun & Safety for Your Pup

Memorial Day is a wonderful time to honor and remember all who have served our country. It’s also the unofficial kickoff to summer — filled with BBQs, community parades, swimming, fireworks, and quality time with family and friends!

While we love celebrating the holiday, it’s important to remember our four-legged family members during all the festivities. Busy gatherings, delicious food, hot grills, and loud noises can create unexpected dangers for pups.

BBQ Safety Tips for Dogs

We all love a good Memorial Day BBQ — burgers, hot dogs, ribs, and all the tasty sides! As tempting as it may be to share snacks with your pup, many cookout foods can be harmful to dogs.

Be sure to watch out for:

  • Fatty food scraps that can cause digestive issues
  • Bones that may splinter or become choking hazards
  • Onions, garlic, grapes, chocolate, and other toxic foods
  • Corn cobs and skewers that can create dangerous blockages

And let’s be honest — some pups can be a little mischievous and sneak into things they shouldn’t!

Keep Dogs Away from Grills & Fire Pits

Hot grills, fire pits, and sparklers can all be dangerous for curious dogs. Always keep pets at a safe distance from open flames and hot cooking surfaces to prevent burns or accidents.
