Scottsdale Service Dogs

Even Heroes Need Heroes

We are committed to uniting service dogs with military veterans. We do this by generating awareness of the benefits of service dogs, and hosting fundraisers throughout the year so we can help sponsor their training. Thanks to the continuous generosity of our pet parents and community supporters, we're making an impact.

We're honored to highlight our furry, four-legged heroes who have graduated from training as loyal, hardworking companions for the brave men and women who served our country. It's hard work to become a service dog for a veteran and only the best make the cut. The need for service dogs among veterans is great and with your support, we hope to sponsor many more.

Delphi is the 2nd service dog sponsored for a veteran though our Dogtopia Foundation partnership with K9s for Warriors

In Delphi's own words:

My name is Delphi AHEPA but you can just call me Delphi. I am a little ball of fire at times but I have shown to be great at settling in the craziest locations. I am stationed here at the mega kennel and I have been working here for almost two months. It has been great! I love making friends here and working towards my goal at being a service dog for a veteran. I am a fast learner and love to just gaze into my trainer’s eyes for as long as I am with him. This is pretty common, at least when I talked to my other service dog pals, but everyone enjoys lap the most. Maybe it’s because we love to be as close to people’s faces to lick! My other skills are doing excellent as well, learning more on stand position and how to hold better during brace is a big one. My trainer loves it when I seem to read his mind and do certain behavior before he even cues me.

Only through the continued support from our pet parents through treat drives, fun crafts and community events, are we able  to continue to make a difference in a Veterans life! We can't thank all who support our dedication to the Dogtopia Foundation enough!

K9s for Warriors

Map is the 4th service dog sponsored for a veteran though our Dogtopia Foundation partnership with K9s for Warriors!

Hello from Map, your newest Service Dog in training at Camp K9s! I hope you're having a tail-wagging kind of day — because I sure am! I’ve been staying busy with my training as a future service dog for a U.S. veteran living with PTSD, MST, and TBI, and thanks to you, I’m making great progress.

Every day is a new chance to grow, learn, and practice being the steady, reliable partner my future Warrior will need. From big adventures to quiet moments of focus, I’m soaking it all in (along with the occasional belly rub).

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately…

The Mall:
This place is packed with people, sounds, and smells — which makes it the perfect training ground. I worked on keeping a calm, focused heel through crowds, ignoring food distractions (yes, especially near the food court), and staying attentive to my handler while practicing commands in a busy environment.

Costco:
Talk about sensory overload! Huge carts, stacked shelves, and a symphony of beeping scanners and rolling wheels. I practiced walking calmly next to the cart, ignoring dropped food (no easy task!), and holding my “down-stay” in the middle of the action. My trainer says I handled it all with confidence and focus. Plus, I didn’t flinch when someone dropped a giant pack of paper towels!

Historic Downtown St. Augustine:
What a place! Cobblestone streets, busy sidewalks, street musicians, bicycles, dogs, and even horse-drawn carriages — and I stayed cool through it all. I walked with my handler past big groups of people, loud sounds, and new distractions, keeping my eyes on the job and my paws steady. My trainer says I’m building exactly the kind of confidence and calm I’ll need in real-world situations.

With grateful paws and a happy heart, Map
