MEET THE TEAM

ANNA SANKAR – OWNER & OPERATOR

Anna’s passion for dogs dates back to her toddler years when she lived in India and used to watch her family feed the stray dogs on the streets. Her mom also jokes that Anna’s first word as a child was “Doggie”, and not Mom or Dad (true story!). She grew up with family dogs since the age of 11, but in her 20s, she decided to take her passion to the next level after adopting her first rescue dog, Axel, a bold and confident Husky/Pyrenees/Lab mix who came from a reservation in Northern Quebec and then Sasha, a timid and sweet German Shorthaired pointer mix rescue from Greece. She started volunteering with a few rescue organizations to give back and try and help animals in need as she was so immensely grateful for they had brought her heart dogs into her life – who in fact were regulars at Dogtopia Erindale back in 2019! Fast forward to today, Anna has adopted a few more rescues, and now the Sankar family have a combined total of 6 dogs and several fosters at any given time. Anna has devoted her life to empowering, training and building confidence in, and bringing joy to her dogs and any dog that crosses her path. She has even taken a few certification courses on animal behaviour and is a proud holder of a professional dog walker certification! Every dog deserves to have the best day ever, every day, and Anna is tremendously excited to be bringing the high quality service of Dogtopia to residents of Aurora and surrounding cities!

Anna’s professional career started off in the accounting world, through which she attained her CPA designation, but her true passion was always all things dogs! She has taken her experience working animal rescue, and with her family business, to now a business that supports both her positive reinforcement only values and fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning and operating a business in the dog industry! Her family pack – Manu, a 10 year old Shepherd/Collie mix, Xander, a 5 year old Hound mix, Xara, a 3.5 year  old Husky/Shepherd mix, Jax, a 2.5 year old German Shorthaired Pointer mix and the newest pack member Bella, a 6 month old Husky mix, are all so excited to find some new BFFF’s at Dogtopia of Aurora! Infact, you’ll even see Bella on one of our exterior window graphics at our store 🙂
