Is dog daycare safe?

Yes. Safety is our top priority at Dogtopia of South Elgin. Every dog completes a Meet & Greet evaluation before joining daycare to ensure they are comfortable in our open-play environment. Dogs are supervised throughout the day by trained Canine Coaches, and playgroups are carefully matched by size, temperament, and play style. Our playrooms are designed to provide safe socialization, exercise, and enrichment.

How do I know if my dog is a good fit for daycare?

Every dog is unique, and our Meet & Greet evaluation helps determine if daycare is the right fit. Dogs that enjoy being around other dogs, are comfortable in new environments, and can handle group play typically do very well. Our managers carefully assess each dog’s behavior and comfort level to ensure a safe and positive experience.

What is a Meet & Greet, and why is it required?

Our complimentary Meet & Greet is a one-time evaluation to ensure your dog is a good fit for our open-play daycare environment. During the visit, we review vaccination records, perform a quick health check, and gradually introduce your dog to the playroom for supervised interaction. The process takes about 20 minutes, and if your dog passes the evaluation, you receive a free day of daycare.

What happens if my dog doesn’t pass the Meet & Greet?

If a dog is not a good fit for our open-play environment, we will discuss the reasons with you and provide guidance. Some dogs may benefit from additional training or time to mature before trying again. Our goal is to ensure the safety and comfort of every dog in our care.

Do dogs play together all day?

Dogs enjoy supervised open play throughout the day, with scheduled breaks for rest. This allows dogs to socialize, exercise, and build confidence while staying comfortable and relaxed. Our Canine Coaches monitor playgroups to ensure positive interactions and a safe play environment.

Are dogs separated by size or temperament?

Yes. Dogs are grouped based on size, temperament, and play style. This allows for safe, balanced playgroups and helps ensure all dogs are comfortable and having a positive experience.

How much exercise will my dog get?

Dogs receive plenty of exercise through supervised open play, socialization, and movement throughout the day. Depending on their energy level and play style, dogs can enjoy several hours of active play balanced with rest breaks.

Do you offer webcams?

Yes. Dogtopia of South Elgin offers live webcams in every playroom, so pet parents can check in on their dogs throughout the day. Webcams are active during open play periods:

Weekdays: 7 a.m.–Noon and 2 p.m.–7 p.m.
Weekends: 10 a.m.–Noon and 2 p.m.–5 p.m.

It’s a great way to see your pup enjoying the Most Exciting Day Ever.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured?

If a dog shows any signs of illness or injury, they are immediately removed from the playroom and monitored closely. We contact the pet parent right away and, if needed, seek veterinary care. The health and safety of every dog is always our top priority.

How do you keep the playrooms clean?

We maintain the highest standards of cleanliness using a regular cleaning schedule throughout the day. Playrooms are sanitized with pet-safe cleaning products, and our team closely monitors the environment to keep it clean, dry, and comfortable for all dogs.

What should I bring for my dog’s first daycare visit?

For daycare, just bring your dog on leash—we take care of the rest. For boarding stays, we recommend bringing your dog’s food, and you are welcome to bring a bed or blanket from home for comfort.

What vaccinations are required?

All dogs must be current on the following vaccinations:

  • Rabies

  • Bordetella

  • Distemper/Parvo (DHPP)

Vaccination records must be provided before a dog can attend daycare or boarding. Puppies can start as early as 4 months of age once they have completed their full vaccination series.

Do you accept puppies or intact dogs?

Yes. Dogtopia accepts intact dogs under 7 months of age if they pass their Meet & Greet and are fully vaccinated. After 7 months of age, dogs must be spayed or neutered to continue participating in daycare or boarding.

What are your hours for daycare and boarding drop-off and pick-up?

Weekdays: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. (boarding drop-offs and pick-ups only)

How is boarding priced, and what’s included?

Boarding is priced per night and includes full days of supervised open-play daycare. Pick-up is by noon to avoid a half-day daycare charge. After four or more nights of boarding, your pup receives a complimentary bath before going home. You are welcome to add on any other spa services as needed.  Nails, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing are popular add-ons.

Will my dog play during boarding?

Yes. All boarding dogs enjoy full access to our daycare playrooms and participate in up to 10 hours of supervised play each day. Dogs spend their days socializing and exercising with their BFFFs and are not kept in crates for extended periods.

What kind of accommodation do you provide for overnight stays?

Dogs stay in home-style crates or spacious suites, depending on their size and needs. Each pup has a safe and comfortable place to rest overnight. Most pet parents bring a bed or blanket from home to make their dog more comfortable. Dogs rest overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Can I bring my dog’s food, medications, or toys?

Yes. Pet parents provide their dog’s regular food so pups can stay on their normal routine. We administer non-injectable medications at no extra charge. You may also bring durable toys, but please note that rawhides and bully sticks are not allowed.

Do you offer discounts for regular daycare?

Yes. Our weekly daycare enrollment programs allow pet parents to save on daycare visits. The more days your dog attends, the more you save. Enrolled dogs also receive priority booking and discounted boarding rates.
