Dogtopia of Birmingham – Parkside
Dogtopia is the leading destination for dog daycare, boarding and spa services. Our mission is to enrich your dog’s life by providing a safe, supervised, stimulating environment in a modern, open-play facility where they can exercise, socialize, learn and have fun!
Our highly skilled team is focused on your pup’s health and emotional well-being, which includes strengthening their socialization skills in our off-leash, open-play environment. Socializing with other dogs will increase your pup’s confidence, reduce their anxiety around others, and allow them to tap into their natural pack instinct. At our doggy daycare, they can form long-lasting bonds with BFFFs (Best Furry Friends Forever) and enjoy an itinerary filled with tail-wagging fun so they can have the Most Exciting Day Ever in our care.
Pet parents, choose between our wellness plans that provide a consistent and healthy routine for your furry family member.
Looking for a “home away from home” for your pup when you can’t be by their side? We offer overnight stays that combine all the fun of daycare with comfort and care into the evening and overnight. We have home-style crates as well as private suites that are typically available upon request at no additional charge. Safety, comfort, and coziness are top priorities for our boarding pups.
We also have a doggie spa equipped to provide some much-needed pampering, including treatments that will keep you on top of your dog’s hygiene routine.

PREMIER DOG DAYCARE IN BIRMINGHAM, AL
When your pup joins us for daycare or boarding, they’ll become part of the Dogtopia Squad, which gives them access to our bubble parties with bacon- and peanut butter-flavored bubbles, the chance to show off their inner artist with arts & crafts activities, tasty gourmet and seasonal treats during the week created by our team, and invitations to our photoshoots with themed props and outfits that result in frame-worthy keepsakes.
We have three spacious, climate-controlled indoor playrooms where we separate dogs by their size and personality. This helps ensure our pups are around like-minded furry friends who not only share their height but also their play style. Our facility also has a nearly 1,000 square feet outdoor play area. We rotate each playroom outside in the morning and afternoon for about 45 minutes each, depending on the weather. Unlike some competitors, our dogs play all day (with a break for lunch and naptime) instead of rotating them in and out of kennels for “play sessions”.
Our indoor playrooms include:
- Toy Box: This 950-square-feet playroom lets our smaller breeds thrive without any large pups towering over them. This playroom also has direct access to our outdoor play area.
- Romper Room: Larger breeds who are younger and have higher energy will enjoy being around their like-minded furry friends in this 1,750 square feet playroom, which has ample space to run, chase, and play hard.
- Gym: This 1,800 square feet playroom is great for older, calmer dogs who want to play and be social and active alongside their friends but also need time to rest.
Each playroom has large windows with lots of natural light, so even though your pup will be indoors for most of their day, it won’t feel that way. Dogs don’t think about inside vs. outside the way people do, so they’ll be exposed to new sights, smells, and sounds that keep our indoor space different from home, for example, which is a plus when maintaining potty training.
Want the chance to see your pup after you drop them off or while you wait during pick-up? Our lobby has a monitor where pet parents can view our playrooms and outdoor play area cameras, as well as a Vestaboard where we make daily announcements about treats, upcoming events, and our new canine guests, so you’ll never miss a beat.
Speaking of cameras, we’ve equipped live webcams in each playroom, including our outdoor area, so whether you are in line at the store, at home, relaxing on a beach, or at the office, you can check in on your pup as long as you have internet access. Our livestreams are available to watch via Dogtopia’s free mobile app or website and are accessible throughout the day, except from noon-2 p.m. when we turn our cameras off so our pups can eat lunch and enjoy some “me” time as our team sanitizes our playrooms before afternoon play.
The services we offer at Dogtopia of Birmingham - Parkside include:
DOGGY DAYCARE PLAYROOM DESIGN
When we constructed our playrooms, we ensured the needs of each pup would be met and that safety would be prioritized. We used a compressed rubber flooring that supports hip and joint health. It’s also easier on dogs’ paw pads; think of it like the comfiest pair of running shoes, offering much-needed support when playing the day away!
Our soundproof playroom walls reach from the floor to the ceiling, so each playgroup is completely separated. This helps minimize distractions so pups can focus on their friends and the activities we have planned just for them rather than the neighboring playrooms. We also have double-barrier doors that help ensure pups can’t escape, which adds an additional level of safety on top of the watchful eye from our team.
We’ve equipped advanced HVAC systems in each playroom that help keep fresh, clean air circulating throughout our facility. It also allows us to climate control each playroom, so it is always the ideal playing temperature, no matter what’s in the Birmingham weather forecast. That means your dog’s playtime doesn’t have to get cut short on those cloudy, rainy days!
SAFETY AND SUPERVISION AT Dogtopia of Birmingham - Parkside
Maintaining playroom cleanliness plays a crucial role in ensuring doggie safety at our facility. Our team strives to keep our play areas fresh and clean to prevent any messes from interfering with the fun, and we follow the strict guidelines set by Dogtopia’s experts, which include an Environmental Biologist and a Veterinary Scientist. We want to ensure that our pups remain healthy and happy while they enjoy their time with us, so we use a pet-safe bio-enzymatic spot cleaner and other pet-safe products to deep clean each playroom twice a day, which includes sanitizing all surfaces.
Highly skilled Canine Coaches supervise our playrooms to ensure the safety and well-being of every doggie guest at Dogtopia of Birmingham - Parkside. Experts in interacting with dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and play styles, our Coaches know how to read doggy body language effectively and can tell when to intervene when pups may need a break from the playtime action or need help “breaking the ice” with other dogs.
To become a Dogtopia Canine Coach, they must complete a training curriculum, which has been approved for continuing education credits by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. Pet parents can have peace of mind knowing that their furry family member is being cared for by Coaches who will treat their pup like their own.
Our Coaches also like to give out periodic report cards as a way for you to see how your dog’s day went. We’ll include details about their behavior and the friends they made, and our daycare regulars will receive even greater insight into their pup’s time in our care.
DOGTOPIA’S MEET & GREET EVALUATION
Our Meet & Greet assessment is our way of making sure all dogs in our care can enjoy their time together in a safe and comfortable off-leash, open-play environment. In this initial 20-30-minute evaluation, our team follows a standardized process that Dogtopia has established. This includes:
- Health overview: Our team will carefully review your dog’s health history, conduct a nose-to-tail examination, and make note of any areas your pup might be sensitive to touch. Additionally, we will ensure that your pup is up to date on all of their vaccinations and in good physical health.
- Mini play space: Feeling comfortable around other dogs is essential in our facility. That’s why we will create a mini place space with a couple of like-minded dogs from the playroom your pup would be in and observe how they respond to each other.
- Crate comfort: During naptime and overnight stays, our dogs will stay in our home-style crates. To make sure your pup feels comfortable in a crate, our team will see how they respond.
We accept all dogs no matter their breed, but we do have some parameters that Dogtopia has established for all locations. First, all dogs must be at least 12 weeks old, and those seven months and older must be spayed/neutered. Next, we will verify that your dog is up to date on their vaccines, which include Bordetella, DHLPP/DHPP (also known as “distemper/parvo”), and Rabies. We highly recommend the canine influenza vaccine, but our team will notify you if this is required before your dog’s visit.
When arriving for your dog’s Meet & Greet, we ask that you have them on a leash with a collar or a harness before entering our lobby. Also, be sure to bring your questions about our services, as we’d love to answer them as we show you around our space during their evaluation. Our team wants this experience to be a positive one for pet parents and pups alike.
