Bel Air Dog Daycare

It's all about my quality time with BFFFs. You know - socializing, playing and being a smarty pants...sans the pants.

Dogs deserve the world for the selfless love they show us daily. Pet parents know that prioritizing their health, happiness and overall wellbeing will help pups live their best life. As pet parents ourselves, the team at Dogtopia of Bel Air is committed to putting dogs’ needs first and treating them to The Most Exciting Day Ever.

At Dogtopia, we’ve created a safe and loving home-away-from-home for the pups in our care. Our daycare dogs become better canine citizens thanks to our proactive team of Canine Coaches who help them become socialized while providing consistent basic training. Skilled in managing all sizes and breeds, our expert Coaches help ensure every pup has a tail-wagging good time while improving agility skills through fun exercises that keep them moving, engaging in stimulating brain games that keep their minds sharp and problem-solving skills strong, and encouraging lasting bonds with new BFFFs (Best Furry Friends Forever).

Beyond supervising and facilitating the fun, our Canine Coaches play a key role in ensuring we have a safe space at our facility. They must complete a rigorous, four-part training process that has been approved by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. To ensure our playroom activity is focused on exercise, learning and fun, our Coaches complete training designed by a Canine Behaviorist to learn how to detect even the smallest changes in doggie body language or behavior. Always alert, they are quick to resolve any situation with patience and compassion.

Thanks to the periodic report cards provided by our Coaches, pet parents can gain insight into their dog’s behavior during the day, how they engaged with our staff, and the furry friends they made. Our more regular daycare customers can also receive further steps on how to replicate our training at home.

To make our daycare dogs’ experience with us even more memorable, our Coaches regularly throw peanut butter or bacon-flavored bubble parties that our pups love. We also organize fun Arts & Crafts activities where they can create doggie masterpieces to take home, and host tasty treat days. Plus, our pet parents appreciate the frequent themed photoshoots at Dogtopia of Bel Air, as the photos are always adorable (and share-worthy).

We offer half and full-day daycare options depending on your schedule, along with weekly wellness plans that allow your dog to come to daycare two to three times a week at a lower price. Since dogs thrive on consistency, they will appreciate a daycare routine they can look forward to it each week.

INDOOR DOG PLAYROOMS IN HARFORD COUNTY, MD

Our modern and spacious 6,000 sq ft. facility includes three thoughtfully designed playrooms that give your pup the freedom to run around in a secure space. Although indoors, our playrooms have no negative effects on house training, because the sights, smells and sounds your pup will experience are very different than what they know from home. After several decades of providing daycare service, Dogtopia is confident that our open play environment will not lead to more accidents at home.

Our daycare dogs average 30,000–60,000 steps in a full eight-to-ten-hour day of daycare, which is key to maintaining good cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of doggie obesity. While they are strengthening their bodies, they are also engaging with other dogs and tapping into their natural pack instincts. Socialization teaches dogs how to interact with others, and can also help reduce their anxiety to new situations and build their confidence. All of this and more happens in our playrooms, and we love seeing our daycare dogs grow into their best doggie selves.

When you arrive at Dogtopia of Bel Air for the first time, your pup will be assigned a playroom based on their size and playstyle. Smaller pups enjoy our Toy Box, larger breeds and more mature dogs have fun in our Gym and for the pups that fall in-between (aka medium-sized dogs with more energy) will thrive in our Romper Room.

There’s no need to worry about the weather outside, as it’s always the perfect temperature for playtime in our playrooms. We have equipped HVAC systems in each room that helps us maintain a climate-controlled environment while also pumping through fresh, clean air.

Our playrooms are separated with floor-to-ceiling soundproof walls to help prevent and contain any airborne doggie bacteria or viruses. We have also found that this separation helps us ensure pups only focus on their furry friend group. Other dog facilities often use wire fencing or dividers to separate their play spaces. However, this can lead to loud noises and lots of distractions – both of which are not helpful to playing and socializing. Best of all, indoor playrooms mean your pup won’t come home covered in mud or dirt!

Since daycare dogs spend a significant amount of their day with us, we put much thought into the comfort of our playrooms when our space was under construction. This is why our floors are made from an odor-resistant, non-absorbent compressed rubber that is comfy to walk and run on. It also helps maintain the long-term health of their hips, joints and paw pads, something that materials like gravel or cement that many dog facilities use lack.

Our playrooms also come equipped with webcams that pet parents can tune in to wherever they are. We understand being away from your pup is not easy, even if it is just for the day, so a live feed of our pups playing with each other offers a great solution for pet parents. Accessible via our website or free mobile app, our private stream is only for pet parents with a pup in daycare, and webcams do turn off between 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. During this time, all dogs are in our home-style crates eating lunch and napping.

A DAY OF DAYCARE AT Dogtopia of Bel Air

We follow a consistent schedule for our daycare dogs, so they know what to expect each time they visit us. When they arrive in the morning, they will join our early risers of playful pups, allowing them to burn off their pent-up energy. During this time, our Canine Coaches work with each dog to ensure everyone is starting the day off right by organizing brain games for them to do, exercises to engage in and encouraging socialization opportunities for our pups.

When noon hits, daycare dogs eat lunch before napping in our home-style crates that are in the same playrooms to maximize their familiarity with the space. Until 2:00 p.m., pups are recharging their batteries, while our team administers any pre-approved medication as directed by pet parents. This is also the time for maintenance, allowing our team to clean each playroom and sanitize surfaces in preparation for afternoon play.

Pet parents can purchase food from us that we will prepare during lunchtime, or you can bring your pup’s own food from home. We offer turkey meatballs, turkey bacon, rice bowls, our house food (by Taste of the Wild) and many more treats! We will also have food available for purchase with proceeds that go to the Dogtopia Foundation. This helps adults with autism get jobs, supports recruitment of therapy dogs for students, and funds service dogs for veterans.

Once our pups’ bellies are full and their playtime energy is recharged, they are back to playing, learning, exercising and socializing until pick up. Dogs in daycare receive lots of love during the day, and combined with their afternoon nap, you won’t be going home with a cranky pup. In fact, they will likely come home ready to drift off into doggie dreamland because they are happily played out. This is something we call the Dogtopia Daze and is a component of daycare that many pet parents appreciate since it’s a sign of a fun day of daycare.

ADD A TRIP TO OUR SPA

After a fun day at daycare, pups can unwind at our dog spa. From baths and brush-outs to blueberry facials, Dogtopia of Bel Air’s spa has plenty of treatments to pamper your pup. Our full-service spa also offers necessary treatments for their hygiene regimen, such as nail trims, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and more. When you add a spa trip to your pup’s daycare visit, they will come home looking, feeling and smelling their best.

DOG DAYCARE SAFETY MEASURES

To maintain a safe space, we first ensure it is a clean one. All of our cleaning protocols have been created by an expert Environmental Biologist and Veterinary Scientist who work together to ensure each Dogtopia location is safe for dogs. We use dog-friendly cleaning supplies and spot cleaners, and ensure surfaces are sanitized multiple times a day.

Before dogs can enjoy their first day of daycare, they must pass our Meet & Greet assessment. Performed by our trained evaluator, we will determine if an off-leash, open play space is a good fit for your dog, as we want to ensure all of our daycare dogs feel comfortable being themselves.

The evaluation will take 20-30 minutes and include an overall wellness check, a nose-to-tail assessment and a health history overview. All pups must have vaccination records that are up-to-date, such as Rabies, Bordetella, DHLPP/DHPP, etc. and dogs seven months and older must be spayed/neutered.

Our team will also check to see your dog’s response to other furry friends and our staff in a controlled, mini-play area. We also test their comfort level in our home-style crates, which is what they will be in during naptime and lunch, and for pups staying overnight.

All dogs who enter our facility must be at least 12 weeks old. If they are not quite old enough, know that our team can’t wait to welcome them when they are and be a part of their daily routine. You can request a Meet & Greet appointment with us via our convenient online form, and we can get started on your pup’s daycare journey together!

Dogtopia supports several Commitments to Safety. They include:

  • Effective in-store cleaning protocols that keep your dog’s safety top of mind
  • A charitable foundation that enables dogs to give back in our communities
  • Free webcam access to check in on your pup
  • 8-10 hours of open play to support exercise and socialization
  • A universal vow to treat every Dogtopia dog like a member of the family
