Meet the Owner
Janet Wahlmeier opened Dogtopia of Raleigh in October 2008. She had worked at IBM and decided it was time to step away from the corporate world. Her life-long love of animals led her to pursue an opportunity where she could work with animals on a daily basis. Since the doors opened, she has never looked back. Janet is focused on delivering the absolute best in customer service and feels truly honored that clients entrust her with their precious dogs. Safety is always the top priority!
In addition to a passion for dogs, Janet feels strongly about giving back to the community. Dogtopia of Raleigh is proud to support Second Chance Pet Adoptions and foster dogs for them at no cost. She has even adopted some of the foster dogs that came through Dogtopia’s doors through Second Chance – two furry Sheltie mix littermates, Kiki and Lana, who are now certified Therapy Dogs. Janet, Kiki and Lana spend their free time alternating between entertaining the residents of Assisted Living facilities or helping children at the local “See Spot Read” program. In addition to rescue, Dogtopia of Raleigh has also partnered with and raised funds for Coalition to Unchain Dogs and the Raleigh Police Department K-9 unit.
Janet’s top goal is to ensure that Dogtopia of Raleigh remains a safe, healthy and fun environment for every doggy client for the rest of his or her life.
Janet is joined by a team of professionals who have a passion for providing Raleigh’s dogs with the best care. Manager Samantha Sterner is very knowledgeable in all aspects of our business and provides an excellent role model for our team. Sam is the proud dog parent of Tessa, a Mini Australian Shepherd and Fudge, a Pekingese mix. She has been a part of the team for nearly eight years.
Manager Katie Selvey is also known as the social director of Dogtopia. Katie coordinates all of our onsite special events and our community outreach events. Katie is a dog mom to Jojo, a rambunctious white Boxer and Patty, a happy go lucky Boxer mix. She and her husband are also active foster parents for Carolina Boxer Rescue. She has been a part of the Dogtopia family for over five years.
Groomer Angie Martin has over 20 years of grooming experience. Her love of dogs is clearly evident in her calm, patient manner with every customer.
Each of our Shift Leaders, Jeff Moore, Lauren Pearce and Meghan Green, bring their own unique set of skills and personalities to Dogtopia of Raleigh.
Jeff is our resident comedian. He has a true passion for every dog that comes through our door. Jeff is the parent to Belah, a Boxer and his cat, Chester.
Lauren may be quiet, but you know her mind is always working. She is meticulous, detail oriented and is always a shining example for the rest of team.
