A New Dog Helps a Mother Deal with a Tragedy

My dog Paige is the reason I get out of bed!

My youngest daughter Hilary died tragically on December 26, 2016. It was the worst day of my life. When Hilary died, we still had her dog Rocky (was family dog but attached to Hilary). Rocky was always by my side when I needed him after Hilary’s death. Rocky was very affected by Hilary’s death and went into depression and laid in her bed always looking at the door Hilary came in when home either from college or work. Rocky ended up getting very sick and we had to put him down. That as so difficult as we were losing a part of our daughter. Rocky was 15 and died 2 yrs after Hilary.

I realized after Rocky died that I needed that unconditional love again and would help as a therapy dog for my traumatic grief and PTS. I waited for about 1- 1/2 years and that is when Paige came into our life. She slept in our bed right from 12 weeks when she came to our home. She has always known when I needed her. She sleeps on my head or with her chin on my face.

Paige has been the best decision I ever made. She loves me unconditionally and that is what I lost when my daughter Hilary died.
