Puppy Preschool is a more tailored and structured puppy-only daycare experience with a learning curriculum to help our Dogtopia puppies grow into the best canines they can be. Although puppies can & often do enjoy our regular daycare services and experience all the benefits of open-play socialization, we recognize that puppies have different, additional needs.
Did you know that puppies go through FIVE different development stages? Their experiences (positive & negative) in each stage have a direct impact on your puppy’s behavior in your house and at daycare. The first year of their life is critical. It’s important to expose your puppy, in a positive way, to new sights, sounds, scents, and more.
That’s where Dogtopia’s Puppy Preschool comes in! Puppy Preschool exposes puppies to situations that they would encounter in the real world, but in a nurturing and fun environment and under the supervision of a professional. We are proud to be one of the few daycares in the Madison area offering a puppy only playgroup with structured learning curriculum!
Classes are offered every Saturday and are held from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with pick ups from class between 3:15-5:00 p.m.
Classes are limited to pups between the ages of 12 weeks – 1 year of age. All pups must have successfully completed a Meet & Greet at Dogtopia prior to their first class and be up to date on all of Dogtopia’s standard health requirements. There is no set number of classes required; sign your dog up for the sessions that you please, on the weeks that work with your schedule. If your dog is enrolled at Dogtopia, Preschool qualifies as one play. For dogs who enjoy Pay per Play, the cost of one Preschool class is the same as a half day of play – $20. What does a day at preschool look like?
Each class will follow a similar structure but the day’s activities and sensory enrichment will change each week.
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Puppies are being dropped off for class. As their friends join the group, pups will engage in open play social learning, supervised by a seasoned Canine Coach who will help them develop healthy play behaviors.
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Break Time! The Canine Coach will work on crate training with lots of positive reinforcement and each puppy will receive individual care & cuddle time.
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Activity Time! Every 30 minutes the Canine Coach will introduce a new activity for the puppies’ growth and development. Activities will fall into one of four categories: commands, basic playroom skills, sensory enrichment activities (sight, sound, & scents), and games. Canine Coaches will fill out a report card for each puppy on their participation in the activities so you can see how your pup is learning!
3:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Puppies receive quiet rest time until they are picked up.
