Make sure everyone ignores the dog when they first get home (that includes family members). It’s hard to do, but if every time someone walks through the door and there is a celebration with the dog, then we can’t blame him for getting excited and jumping! Secondly, as the guests enter, have them drop treats on the ground. If your dog learns that guests drop treats then he will start to look at the floor instead of jumping. Finally, if arrival time is just too exciting, consider removing him to another part of the house until the guests are settled. If he doesn’t see them as they come in the door, then he is less likely to jump when he meets them later.
