The best time to start training your puppy is right away! Set the rules for your puppy as soon as they get home. This will help them grow up into well behaved dogs.  Remember that your puppy is just a baby, so if he messes up, nips you too hard, or has an accident in the house he isn’t trying to dominate or be alpha, he just made an innocent mistake.  Only use positive reinforcement when training your puppy. Punishment can lead to increased fear and nervousness. Praise your puppy anytime he is calm and/or when he complies with your direction. Prevent your puppy from discovering negative behaviors, such as getting in the trash or chewing shoes, by puppy proofing your house. This will help limit his access to things he might destroy and also helps to keep him safe from any household hazards like cords or small items he could choke on.
