Dogtopia Named No.1 Pet Franchise in Entrepreneur’s 2025 Franchise 500 List January 16, 2025
Entrepreneur’s annual Franchise 500 list, a much-anticipated collection of franchise systems that are evaluated and ranked for factors such as costs/fees, size/growth, support, and brand strength, has just been released. We are proud to announce that Dogtopia has ranked in the top 100 overall at No. 74 and has secured the number one spot in the pet industry category. This marks our sixth consecutive year achieving this accomplishment.
As detailed on Entrepreneur’s site, our No. 1 ranking is due to the work we’ve been doing to advance our technology and plan for strategic growth—just some of the key elements that make Dogtopia one of North America’s fastest-growing pet services franchises. Not only do we take an all-encompassing view on dog wellness and provide state-of-the-art, clean facilities built with dogs’ needs in mind, but we also continuously work on tech upgrades that help our franchise network succeed.
Neil Gill, Dogtopia’s President and CEO, shares that Dogtopia has “invested over $7 million in our new technology stack to support our franchisees and improve the customer experience.” This investment includes the introduction of a new daycare management system, that is powered by Salesforce. The new technology provides franchisees with a customized platform to better manage services, appointments, transactions, billing, and more. Additionally, Dogtopia has developed a proprietary activity monitor called DASH, which allows pet parents to track their dog’s activity, both in and out of daycare. This new device is the first of its kind in the daycare space and has been rigorously tested to withstand a multi-dog playroom environment. These ongoing initiatives aim to meet the needs of pet parents, including greater personalization and a positive experience.
Dogtopia is continuing to open more locations across North America in 2025. Currently at 286 facilities and on pace to open 400 stores by 2026, thanks to our sustainable growth plans, including the new efficient store design we’ve been implementing since early 2024. Our updated model reduces capital expenditure while maximizing revenue opportunities, offering 20% more play area than our previous design. Additionally, the smaller footprint of these stores increases the accessibility of available real estate. All these factors make it easier for prospective franchisees to invest and succeed.
We are proud to have our success recognized in this year’s Franchise 500 list, having scored in the top 15% for size and growth, which is, in part, a reflection of our 12% systemwide revenue growth and more than 5% same-store sales growth over 2023.
